With a wakeup call at 6 am we met for breakfast at 6:30 and were on the bus at 7:30 bound for Petra.
Here is our bus driver Munzer on the right and our tour guide Tony Rumi. Tony was a top notch guide and a Christian as well. Mike Landry, Pastor of Sarasota Baptist church, led us in a devotion on the bus as we began out trip.

Petra is a collection of burial places carved into the solid rock deep within the dark mountains shown in this picture. There is only one way in and out. It is about a five mile round trip.

There are horses and carts available to help if needed. The caves that are carved in the rock walls were all used as burial sites.

It is not known where the people of this valley lived but there are still studies and digs going on to solve the mysteries. The rock walls were absolutely beautiful.

Our guide talked with as frequently along the way giving us great information and answering our questions.

Along both walls were channels used to carry the supply of water into the canyon. Here is one of the horse and carts in use.

This was not a level walk but was downward the whole distance.

This is the one named "The Treasury" because that is what it looks like. There were guards in authentic uniforms of the time just recently added.

Some of the caves were quite large and simple.

The walk down was easy but the walk back up was difficult. Some reverted to the carts. This is a carved r\Roman Amphitheatre which seats about 3,000.

There were also camel rides in the lower area.

A close up of the amphitheatre

It is not known where the people that build this lived. It was not in the caves. This was the end of our journey but excavation is still going on further down.
