We met in the lobby after breakfast at 8 am for our
trip to the Valley Of The Kings.
On the way we saw a group of six hot-air balloons.
In the reception of the Valley Of The Kings they had
this relief map of all of the tomb sites.
We first watched a video explaining the tombs and
what we could expect to see.
We were not allowed to photograph the inside of the
tombs. We got to go into three of them.
This is one that we had to climb up to the entrance
and then down into the tomb.
Next we visited this temple built into the opposite
side of the mountain. It was built in memory Pharaoh Hatshepsut who
was the daughter of Kink Tut and Nefertiti.
This is a close-up of the upper two stories.
These are some of the columns on the front of the
temple.
We got to take a sailboat ride back to our hotel. It
was a great day for sailing and the captain did a great job.
Here we are enjoying the ride. We stopped for lunch
at our hotel arriving by water.
We next went to Karnak Temple just north of Luxor.
This is the front wall of the temple.
It was built in 300 BC and has the largest columns
ever built in the world.
There are 134 columns in the temple. The obelisk
here is the largest one ever made from a single stone.
This shows one destroyed by an earthquake with the
two still standing in the background.
This was the Holy Of Holies that only the Pharaoh
was allowed to enter.
Then we went to the restored Luxor Temple in the
downtown Luxor.
These statues are supposed to be guarding the
entrance to the temple.
These are some of he many columns in the temple.
These are a couple of locals that wanted their
picture taken, for money of course.
These are five of the twelve statues in this
chamber.
We are leaving Egypt Thursday and heading
for Jordan. We have to get up at 4:00 am, put our luggage out in the
hall at 4:15 and the bus leaves at 5 am. We will fly to Cairo
then to Amman Jordan. We will spend the night at the hotel in
Jordan and start home on Friday. We should arrive in
Sarasota sometime after midnight on Saturday morning.
