Gene Mathes came to Sarasota, with his wife, in May of 1999 after retiring from the Raymond Corporation in Greene NY as a Software Engineer. Gene graduated from Ohio University in 1960 with a BSEE degree. Gene went into computer programming in 1963 while working for McGraw Edison Corporation. He then spent most of his career as a Software Engineer for NCR Corporation.
His wife of 20 years passed away in January of 2004 from cancer. Gene has three children from his first wife, who passed away in 1981 from cancer. His son and wife in Wyoming have two children and his two daughters and their husbands in Ohio have five between them making a total of seven grandchildren.
Gene has taught classes for SPCUG in Web Page Design and Paint Shop Pro since 2004. He presently conducts a Web Page Forum on General Meeting night. Gene has created and maintains a web site for his retirement community at 'OrangeAcres.net' and one for his woodworking club at 'FloridaWoodworkers.com'. He also conducts a weekly computer forum in his community and gives his time to help his neighbors with their computers.
Gene also has strong interests in model railroading, woodworking and singing with his guitar.
